$200.00 Third place winner @Smith Mountain Arts Council juried show, 2009
I am originally from northeastern Pennsylvania, and have been living in Virginia for about 20 years. I studied art and retail advertising at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. My art career has varied from retail illustration, to textbook illustration and graphic design. While living in Pennsylvania, I was awarded first prize in painting at the Lackawanna Arts Festival Show, the Hazleton Art League Show, and second prize and the Susquehanna Arts Festival Show.
I have returned to painting after a long absence. I was awarded first prize in painting at the League of Roanoke Artists Annual Show, 2005, and 2007, and the Montgomery Fine Arts Festival in 2006. I have exhibited at the New River Valley Regional Arts Show in 2005, and again in 2007. I had a solo show at the Mojo Café in February 2007, and exhibited at the Roanoke College Show in 2007. I received a Second Place award for painting both at the Salem Art Show and a First Place award at the Fincastle Art Show in 2007. My opaque watercolor was chosen for a presentation gift for the Women in Construction Annual Meeting in 2007. Another watercolor was featured in the Jacksonville Center’s “Watermarks “ Exhibit this past summer.
In 2009, I was one of several artists featured in the Bread and Butter Art Show for Emerging Artists, sponsored by the Arts Council of the Blue Ridge. I received both first and second place prizes for oil painting at the Smith Mountain Lake Art Show. My painting, “September Afternoon in Amherst” received first prize for Oil at the Roanoke Art League Annual Showcase. Another painting, “The Music Lovers”, was featured in the Virginia Tech University Holiday Show, and “Summer Breeze” won first prize in the Jerry’s Artarama National Painting Competition sponsored by Lukas Paints.
In 2010, my paintings. “Feel the Beat”. “September Afternoon in Amherst”, and ”The Music Lovers”, were selected for the Upstream Peoples Online International Show. I have also won second prize in the 2010 Blue Ridge “All That Glitters” Show for my painting, “Heavy Metal”. Another recent work, “City Symphony”, has also been accepted by the Upstream International Gallery for 2010/2011.
When I am not painting or drawing, I teach yoga and Pilates. I have been teaching both for over 14 years.
